Male condom

A

The male condom is a thin rubber sheath that fits over the erect penis

— It holds the sperm and prevents it from entering the womb
— It is rolled onto the erect penis before it touches the vagina
— small space should be left between the condom and the tip of the penis for collection of seminal fluids that contains the sperm
— Should be removed after sex before the penis loses its erection
— it should properly be disposed after use
— A vaginal foaming tablet can be used at the same time to increase protection

Advantages
— It is safe and effective. Has no harmful side effects.
— It is convenient and easy to use. It is also affordable
— It can prevent both pregnancy and STIs

Disadvantages
— It interrupts sexual activity
— Need to use one condom for each sexual act
— Some men and women can be allergic to the latex ( rubber ).
— It might decrease sexual sensitivity and pleasure.

Foaming Tablet

A

Vaginal Foaming tablet is a spermicides inserted deep in the vagina

Available spermicides in Ghana include Neo Sampson and today contraceptive.

Function
— Tablet contains substances that kill sperms ( spermicides)
— Five to 10mins before sex , a tablet is inserted. It dissolves and prevents the sperm from entering the womb.
— A condom can be used at the same time to increase protection.

Advantages
— Has no harmful side effects
— Convenient and easy to use
— Are affordable

Disadvantages
— Not as effective as some of the other methods
— A tablet must be used each time the couple has sexual intercourse
— Can interrupt sex
— May cause irritation, may be messy.
