A

Began as spontaneous uprising triggered by bread shortages. Was rooted from suffering and frustration under autocracy

A

His train was diverted and he was forced to. Him and his family put under house arrest.

A

• Headed by Lvov
• Made up of former supports of constitutional monarchy
• Planned as a temporary government until a constitutional assembly could be elected
• Supported by the old tsarist civil service, army officers and the police

A

• Socialist intellectuals
• Members of executive committee were elected, unlike PG
• Generally considered by workers, soldiers and peasants to be a more democratic, less elitist organisation than the PG

Why was there some conflict between the two bodies?

A
  • PG wanted to improve discipline in the army to stop more desertions, also wanted to restore order in countryside. But the Soviet encouraged soldiers, workers and peasants to defy authority and assert their rights.
