A

Seizure accompanied by fever in the absence of intracranial infection.
Occurs between 6m to 6y.

Types

A

Simple febrile seizures(most common) .

Complex febrile seizures.

Simple febrile seizures

A

Generalized tonic - clonic.
Less than 15 mins.
Once in 24h period.
In Neurologically and developmentally normal child.
Excellent prognosis.
Risk of subsequent epilepsy is the same as normal population.

Complex febrile seizures

A

Focal.
More than 15 mins.
Recur within 24h period.
In a child with preexisting neurological challenges.
Risk of subsequent epilepsy is increased.

TTT

A

Antipyretics (doesn’t prevent the seizure).
Diazepam, lorazepam, midazolam if prolonged fit (more than 5 mins).
Antiseizure (not recommended in simple febrile seizures).
