Court case that established the supremacy of the national government through the supremacy clause and necessary and proper clause
McCulloch vs Maryland
Congress gives money for a specific purpose, state governments must pay for part of the program. These are sometimes referred to as unfounded mandates
Categorical Grants
Grants of money give for projects. Nut be applied for and can be given to governmental or non-government agencies
Project Grants
Agreements between state and foreign governments
Interstate compacts
States that the various states must recognize legislative acts, public records, and judicial decisions of the other states within the U.S. Ex marriage laws
Full Faith and Credit Clause
Agreements between states and foreign countries with congressional approval Ex sharing resources and law data
Interstate Compacts
No state can draw unreasonable distinctions between own residents and residents of other states Ex non residents may buy sell and rent property

What is the significance of the 10th Ammendment?
It reserves power to the states not expressed in the Constitution
What is the significance of the “necessary and proper” clause?
It expands the power of the national government
What is the significance of federal grants?
By funding state programs , they allow the federal government to indirectly influence states government and public policy
