Q

Explain the advantages and disadvantages of intrinsic feedback

A

+ve: occurs as movement happens, so movements can be corrected immediately, performer does not have to rely on anyone
-ve: if in the cognitive stage, performer may not be able to intercept info correctly and performance will deteriorate

Q

What is extrinsic feedback?

A

From an external source such as the teacher or coach. It is received by the visual and auditory systems and is used to augment intrinsic feedback

Q

Explain the advantages and disadvantages of extrinsic feedback

A

+ve: coaching points can lead to improvements
-ve: inaccurate feedback can negatively affect performance, if source is unreliable then motivation can drop, does not encourage kinaesthetic awareness

Q

Explain the advantages and disadvantages of positive feedback

A

+ve: leads to positive reinforcement, S-R bonds, motivating, helps to build self esteem and confidence
-ve: can lead to inappropriate S-R bonds, performance will deteriorate, some performers do not respond to praise

Q

Explain the advantages and disadvantages of negative feedback

A

+ve: some are motivated by negative feedback (increasing determination), allows performers to be clear which aspects need improvement, best suited to autonomous leaners
-ve: demotivating and detrimental to learning

Q

Explain the advantages and disadvantages of knowledge of results

A

+ve: allows the performer to see the outcome of their action, motivate the performer
-ve: may demotivate if performance is unsuccessful

Q

What is knowledge of performance?

A

Is feedback about the movement itself and the quality of it. Normally comes from an external source but it can be internally (kinaesthetic awareness).
