Feeding Relationships and Cycles Flashcards
(13 cards)
Trophic level definition
the different stages in a food chain
Producer definition
green plants which photosynthesise to make their own food from the sun
Primary consumer
the animal that eats the producer
Secondary consumer

What does interdependent mean?
if one species change in number it will affect all of the others
What are reasons for the knock on effect of interdependent species? (e.g. if one species decreases/increases why does the other species also decrease/increase):
Less/more competition
Less/more food
Less/more predation
What do food webs show?
how food chains are linked
the arrows show the direction of energy transfer
all the species in a food web are interdependent
What do pyramids of biomass show?
the mass of living material at each stage of the food chain
