- To receive penis and semen during sexual intercourse
- To serve as a birth canal for baby

- For implantation, growth and development of the embryo
- Form the placenta for nutrients, gaseous exchange and remove of metabolic waste
- At birth, its muscular wall contracts to push the baby out of the vagina
