Liberal feminists view
- focus on campaigning against sex discrimination and for equal rights and opportunities for men and women
- believe women’s oppression is gradually being overcome via change in attitudes laws and values for example the sex discrimination act 1975

- women should adopt principled pragmatism and that these 2 things have been ignored:
1. Women have made massive progress over last 60 years in Britain
- omen now have more opportunities and some men also want equality

LIBERAL FEMINIST:
From an early age children are thought the social expectations of their gender n are expected to follow these. This typically occurs via primary socialisation. 4 min processes:
1. Manipulation: parents ncouraging/discouraging behaviour that falls within their gender domain for example fathers encouraging sorts but discouraging crying
2. Cannalization: directing child’s interests eg toys
3. Verbal appellations: pretty/handsome based on gender
4. Domestic activities: girls have cultural expectations of their later life roles which are reinforced by seeing mothers doing housework

Radical feminists argument
- society is founded upon patriarchy and men are the enemy as they are the source of women’s exploitation and oppression
- marriage is also a prison for women

- family is a patriarchal and hierarchical institution which men dominate and exploit women
- economic system: men receive free domestic work, sexual services and reproductive services in exchange for an occasional gift and sustenance

RADICAL:
- women get less out of marriage a they remain subservient to men
- motherhood can e rewarding but isn’t seen as a valued role in society - mothers take the blame for society issues
- argues women are better off outside of marriage and calls for political lesbianism

- Ignore progress made by women - thy now have better access to jobs and divorce and now have control over own fertility
- Divorce reform act means women can now leave marriage
- Many women enjoy being married
- Less women are likel to accept the control from husbands
Marxist feminist argument
- the family and its exploitation serves needs of capitalism
- women reproduce labour force through unpaid domestic work by socialising next generation and maintaining and serving the current one

MARXIST:
Women absor anger
- if they didn’t anger would be directed at capitalism
- women are described as being takers of shit as they soak up the exploitation and oppression of society - this explains domestic violence

- They are a reserve army of cheap labour:
- hired when needed and then fired once no longer needed
- ww1 and ww2 - Socialise children into dominant values of society:
- parents hold power and control over children.
- men hold power and control over women
- children become unquestioning and accept the inequality’s within society

- lesbian and gay family’s are chosen family’s and are just as much family’s as heterosexual ones

- pm feminists critics other feminists for being based on white mc women - the problem of essentialism
- pm feasts say women are oppressed in a variety of ways for example based off class, ethnicity age and sexuality
