How is Troy’s character like?
He is a responsible man. Who had hi dreams crushed because of the slavery faced by his father.
He is the patriarch and central character. He places barriers between himself. Troy prides himself and aims to provide for his family.
How is Rose’s character like?
She is loyal, nurturing, caring and kind. Possesses her ability to forgive. Sees goodness in Troy and acknowledges the innocence of truth.
How is the character Bono like?
He is a character who is wise and someone who admires Troy’s capacity. He idolises Troy whilst a friend who gives useful advice.
How is character Cory like?
He is an ambitious person who wants to follow his dreams of becoming a footballer, but obstructed by his father’s actions.
Who is Lyons?
He is Troy’s son, Troy and Lyons have a distant relationship. Lyons depends on Troy for his gain and is character who is passionate in music.
Who is Gabriel?
He is introduced as Troy’s brother who had suffered from a brain injury. He likes to be called as the archangel Gabriel.
What happens in Act 1 scene 1?
Troy complains from work about his racist treatment that black men are not allowed to drive the rubbish trucks and instead do the lifting. Troy is furious and complains to bono his best friend about his pat experiences of racial discrimination to him wanting to become a baseball player.
What happens in act 1 scene 2?
Gabriel enters the scene with a brain damage and companies Troy. Troy discusses to rose about the compensation for the house outlet not have been given without Gabriel.
Act 1 scene 3?
Cory enters the yard carrying football, Cory tells his father about his dreams but instead Troy refuses due to his post traumatic experiences he dealt with and is afraid of his son experiencing the same thing. Troy and Cory have a heated argument which in result Cory asks Troy ‘why don’t you never like me?

The fence that Troy is building through the play has different symbolic meaning for different characters in the play. For example rose wants to built the fence to keep her loved ones in.
