Fetal Pig Flashcards
(38 cards)
Small intestine
secretes digestive enzymes; where most absorption of digested nutrients occurs, mesentery is visible as well as vessels
Stomach
produces acid for chemical digestion
Pancreas
produces digestive enzymes
Lungs
left and right side, respective to the pig, used for respiration
Liver
produces bile to aid in digestion
Aorta
Carries oxygenated blood out to body
Atrium
Receives blood returning to heart
Carotid arteries
Major arteries in neck, face, and brain
Cecum
Receives undigested food from small intestine
Located between small and large intestine
Abdominal cavity
Lower area of the pig that contains the digestive organs
Anterior vena cava
Carries deoxygenated blood to the heart
Coronary artery
Carries blood to heart
Diaphragm
The muscle that separates the chest (thoracic) cavity from the abdomen. The diaphragm is the main muscle of respiration.
Duodenum
shortest part of the small intestine, where most chemical digestion takes place.
Epididymis
The epididymis is a long, coiled tube that stores sperm and transports it from the testes.
Epiglottis
The epiglottis is essentially a trapdoor in your throat.
located at the entrance of the larynx
Esophagus
to carry food, liquids, and saliva from the mouth to the stomach.
Heart
Circulates blood throughout the body
Gallbladder
Stores bile produced by liver
Kidney
extract waste from blood, balance body fluids, form urine, and aid in other important functions of the body.
Larynx
It manipulates pitch and volume. The larynx houses the vocal folds (vocal cords)
Top wide part of throat
Ovary
they secrete hormones—primarily estrogen and progesterone—that are vital to normal reproductive development and fertility.
Pericardium
Membrane around heart: pericardium fixes the heart to the mediastinum, gives protection against infection, and provides the lubrication for the heart.
Pyloric sphincter/valve
The pyloric sphincter muscle serves as a valve that prevents regurgitation of food from the intestine back into the stomach.
