a1(3)
Which are types are fibrillar collagen?
Type 1, 2 and 3
Which are types are network-forming collagen?
Type 4 and 7
Which are types are fibril-associated collagen?
Type 9 and 12
Collagen is rich in…
Proline and glycine
Repeating sequence in collagen is?
Gly-X-Y (x333)
X frequently is proline
Y frequently is hydroxyproline or hydroxylysine
Which carbohydrates glucosylate collagen?
Glucose and galactose
Collagen fibrils are formed in..
Extra cellular matrix
Collagen molecules are formed in ..
Fibroblasts
What does the signal sequence?
Facilitates the binding of ribosomes to the RER and direct polypeptides into RER. This sequence is cleaved off and polypeptide becomes pro-a-chain before collagen.
Six steps from pro-a-chain to collagen fibril
- Hydroxylation (lumen of RER)
- Glycosylation
- Assembly and secretion (procollagen, RER to Golgi)
- Extracellular clevage (nc terminal ECM)
- Formation of collagen fibril (ECM)
- Cross link formation (covalent)
EDS =
Ehlera-Danlos disease
What is EDS?
Inheritable defects in the metabolism of fibrillation collagen. Collagen processing enzymes. Vascular disease and stretchy skin.
Osteogenesis imperfecta
Twisted back, easily breaking bones and slow healing. Can prevent folding of triple helix
