  1. when faced with threat - amygdala is mobilised
  2. Amygdala associates emotions with sensory signals
  3. Sends a distress signal to hypothalamus
  4. Hypothalamus communicates to the rest of the body through the sympathetic nervous system

  1. SNS is triggered - prepares body for fight or flight

2. Sends signal to adrenal medulla which releases adrenaline

  1. Hypothalamus - releases corticotrophin releasing hormone
  2. pituitary glands - produce and release ACTH to target adrenal glands
  3. Adrenal - releases cortisol to cause stress response triggers
  4. feedback - able to regulate it all
