What is a Simile?
a direct comparison that
always contains the words as or like.

What is personification?
Gives human qualities to inanimate objects or abstract ideas.
What is Apostrophe?
An abstract idea, an inanimate object or a person who is no longer living is addressed or spoken to as if it were human.
What is Allusion?
This is either direct or an indirect referral to a particular aspect.
What is Alliteration?
Is the repetition of consonant sounds at the beginning of words.
What is Assonance?
The repetition of vowel sounds
What is Onomatopoeia?
Uses words that imitate and reproduce real-life sounds and actions
What is Antithesis?
Compares and contradicts ideas or statements within a sentence.
What is an Oxymoron?
Places two words seemingly contradictory words next to eachother.
What is a Paradox?
A seemingly absurd or contradictory statement which, when analysed, is found to be true.
What is Irony?
implies the opposite of what is said.
What is sarcasm?
When one thing is said, but something else is intended or understood.
What is Satire?
Used to highlight, expose or ridicule human, social or political weaknesses or stupidities.
Aimed to change the situation through humour.
What is Parody?
The imitation and/or exaggeration of other text types.
What is hyperbole?
An over-exaggeration, not meant to be taken literally.
What is juxtaposition?
the fact of two things being seen or placed close together with contrasting effect.
What is jargon?
special words or expressions used by a profession or group that are difficult for others to understand.
