mainly used to decrease anxiety.
act by increasing gamma amino butyric acid (GABA)

MAOIs
Antidepressant medication effects
can take 1-4 weeks before symptom relief is noticed.

Mild Anxiety
increased questioning, mild restlessness, sleeplessness, learning to adapt, feelings of increased alertness and arousal.
Moderate Anxiety
voice tremors, pitch changes, muscle tremors, facial twitches, shakiness, increased muscle tension, narrowed focus of attention, selectively inattentive, learning slightly impaired, slight increase in heart and respiratory rates , butterflies in stomach
Severe anxiety
communication difficult to understand, unable to relax, increased motor activity, fearful look, inability to focus, concentrate or process problem at hand, severely impaired learning, impaired judgment, easily distracted, tachycardia, hyperventilation, headache, dizziness, nausea.
panic attack
striking dread and terror accompanied at times by dissociation, complete loss of control agitation, trembling, loss of coordination, unable to learn, disoriented perception dyspnea, palpitations, choking, CP.
direct self destructive behavior
any form of active suicidal behavior, such as threats, gestures or attempts to end one’s life.
indirect self destructive behaviors
any behavior or action that may result in harm to the individuals well being or death
myths about suicide
people who talk about it will not commit suicide
one does not need to take a suicide threat seriously
only psychotic or depressed people commit suicide
population with highest risk of suicide
elderly males just after retirement.

suicidal ideation
expressed thoughts or fantasies with no definite intent-may express ideas directly or symbolically

actions that result in little or no injury but communicate the message of suicidal intent

unsuccessful attempts with a low likelihood of success
