How to Administer Bedpans
- Wash hands, put on gloves
- Have patient bend knees and raise bottom or turn on their side
- Place chuck pad under patient, then place bedpan. Ask patient to position themselves on top
- Provide tissue and privacy
- Instruct them to raise/ turn and remove bedpan
- Empty contents into toilet and dispose bedpan into garbage
- Wash hands
