- N.I.D.A. definition of a drug
any substance other than food which by its chemical nature changes the structure or function of a living organism. No such thing as a safe drug
- Drug misuse vs. drug abuse (N.I.D.A.)
Drug abuse: the use of any psychoactive substance in such a way that it interferes with the aspects of the person’s life.
Drug misuse: the inappropriate use of drugs intended for therapeutic purpose
- The 4 C’s defines addiction:
- a. compulsive to drink-thinking about it, a fear without it
- b. Loss of control
- c. Continuing to drink
- d. despite Consequences

- Legal Drugs are less dangerous than illegal Drugs.
- IF a certain drug is illegal, it must be dangerous.
- people who use illegal drugs typically become addicted, compulsive, or heavy users.
- Marijuana is widely regarded as so dangerous that it is banned in virtually all states in the United States
- If people use marijuana they will inevitably end up using a harder drug such as heroin and cocaine.
- there is a lot of truth in the popular saying “once a junkie, always a junkie”. if we get hooked on heroin, we won’t be able to kick the addiction.
- Given its tougher laws against drug use, the united states has a lower rate of drug use than do most other countries.
- Drug use is so pervasive that it invades every nook and cranny of society, enslaving all classes of Americans to the same extent
- Drug use causes crime as indicated by the fact that many poor drug users are forced to rob or steal to the money for their next fix
- Most people who smoke cigarettes are not aware of the hazards of smoking.
