What’s an Archetype?
A isa typical character that seems to represent universal patterns of human nature.
How does Archetype help people?
Helps readers figure out the character and possible actions they may take in a story. (Characters can fit MULITIPLE archetypes.
What is symbolism?
An object, event, person, color, or place that represents an abstract idea diffrent from the literall meaning.
What does symbolism help with?
It helps create the meaning and emotion in a story.
What is Verbal Irony?
A character says one thing but means the opposite (sarcasm).
What is dramatic irony?
When the reader understands more about the events of a story than a character.
What is situational irony?
When what actually happens is the opposite of what is expected.(No one expects that to happen.)
What is first person?
Person: Narrator is a character in the story. Typically the protagonist. Often uses I or we.
What is second person?
Usually for instructions. Uses “You”; from “your” perspective.
What is third person?
Narrator is not a character in the story; tells the story from an outside perspective. Tell other’s stories. Uses “He”, “She”, and character’s names.
What is Third Person Omniscient?
Narrator is all knowing. Narrator tells the thoughts and feelings of more than one character.
What is Third Person Objective?
Narrator does not know any of the character’s thoughts or feelings. Only the character’s dialogue and actions are narrated.
What is third person limited?
Narrator is limited to one character’s thoughts and feelings. Tells thoughts & feelings of one character.
What is theme?
Theme is the lesson the author wants you to learn from the story.
What is Analogies and Allusions?
a comparison between two things, typically for the purpose of explanation or clarification
Reference to someone or something commonly known in literature, history, religion, or other areas of culture.
What is the setting?
the _time, conditions, place, and social conditions of a story or play.
What is Imagery?
when an image is evoked through the use of really descriptive language; in the reader’s mine so they feel like they are there .
What is sensory?
descriptive words that appeal to the five senses; they describe how we see, hear, touch, taste, and smell the world around us.
