Q

Briefly explain why Romans 11:26 must refer to an eschatological restoration of the nation of Israel (241–43).

A
  • In 66 out of 68 uses in the NT… “Israel” refers to ethnic, national Israel. Other two most likely refer to believing remnant.
  • in 11:28, Paul can ONLY be referring to ethnic Israel because they are the only party that qualify as both “enemies” and “beloved.”
  • Paul’s argument is that Israel’s hardening is only partial (1-10) and only temporary (11–32).
  • Paul quotes Is. 27:9 which is referring to an eschatological day of restoration.
