Refers to a dirty roller towel in the play trifles that symbolizes the men’s ignorance and sloppiness, “Sometimes men’s hands aren’t as clean as they should be.”

Refers to a broken jar of cherry preserves in “Trifles” and an example of the name trifles when the men dismiss it as unimportant while to women feel bad for the wasted effort.

Refers to the way Mini is going to finish her quilt stitch and whether she’ll stitch it or knot it. Also serves as a homophone for “not it” as the women show solidarity. Also Alludes to the fact she Knotted the noose around her husbands neck.

Allene’s maid from “A beautiful Poison”. Taking care of her while she was dying from the Spanish flu inspired Allene to go to medical school.

Holly is secretly Birdie’s child and hazel is Birdie’s mother. They act as a driving force of the story as Birdie does everything she does to stop Holly from becoming like Hazel.

Overarching stressor in the story that also creates confusion with you wondering who is being poisoned and who is dying naturally.
Ernie Fielding
Initially just a side character and constant annoyance. Eventually though to be the villain for a short period of time before being revealed as a hero. Goes on to marry Allene.
Allene
The main character of “A beautiful Poison” and also a the name of a chemical formula with 3 double bonded Carbons (C=C=C) representing the strong bond of the three main characters.

Is what Jasper’s Uncle was forcefully poisoned by.
