Q

Drawing on both the book and the last day’s lecture, describe six (6) different ways (two [2] detailed sentence each) that digital technology has changed the pre-production, production, post-production, distribution, OR exhibition of cinema.

A
  • Digital technology allowed for the emergence of previsualization. This concept began with storyboards (Disney) but eventually lead to crude animations being created to visualize scenes before they were shot.
  • Digital color altering changed post production as well beginning with digital intermediary on film. This then lead to Look-up tables that were generic color templates that could be applied across films.
  • Computer generated images has also become a major digital tool in cinema. CGI is used not only to create realistic fantastic creatures but also used in unnoticable ways to create realism like the retro SF skyline in Zodiac.
  • Blue and green screens and motion capture technology have also come a long way in the production of cinema.
  • Smaller, lighter digital cameras
  • Low light shooting, day to night
  • video assist
