Q

Describe the development of an idol.

A
  • An idol is something that we fear, love, and trust that is not God.
  • Begins when we imagine that we are no longer before YHWH’s face and within His gaze (Aaronic Benediction)
  • Idolatry starts with desire
  • Once we demand what we want, it develops into a full blown idol
  • Once expectations are not met, our frustrations increase
  • If expectations are continued to not be met, we punish others
  • Idols always demand sacrifice (integrity, marriage, friends)
  • The only way to flee an idol is to repent of our sins and exchange the worship of false gods for worship of the True God
