Isolation- doesn’t mean hermit but noncommitted, interested in own pleasure, plenty of fish. Some are lonely, nonsocial, awkward

Virtue- love-capacity to care for another with some emotional energy that one cares for self

Integrity- comin to terms with regrets, successes, missed opps, lookin at life as whole
Despair- missed potential, many regrets, raw deal

Neuro-cognitive disorder, lose memory, ability to care for self, change in personality, get lost and wander away, 24hr care

Declining health, serious illness, death of friends/support, nothing to live for, loneliness, feel like a burden, can't take care of oneself, don't want to go to nursing home. Suicide.

Ppl take advantage of elderly. Telephone scams, street crime (mugging), elder abuse (kids extorting parents for retirement $)

Self differentiation beyond the work role- most ppl highly identify w/their work (i.e. I am a professor- I am what I do) so retirement hard B. body transcendence vs. body preoccupation- body is starting to fail n will continue to do so. Transcendence means enjoying what one still can do rather than cataloging every new limitation C. Ego transcendence vs. ego preoccupation- happy w/ life rather than worried about ones legacy and if one will be remembered by history

Retirement stages: 1. Preparing- stop taking on new work projects, shifting clients over to someone younger, assessing financial ability to retire, health/medical/insurance, sometimes moving to be near kids, retirement home 2. Honeymoon- having free time to do things, always wanted: fishing, grand kids, relax, etc 3. Disenchanted- often become bored, spent too much $, or poor health doesn't allow activities 4. Re-orientation- have to set up schedule and budget that allows some down time, some freebies (play cards), some work around the house, and find a way to fill up some time that used to be occupied by work without spending all ur $
