Target Audience
Age group and demographics, male or female ad or psa is targeting for.
White Balance
Adjusting the cameras internal chips and telling the camera what white is. To do this zoom the camera onto a white surface and click the white balance button.
Subject matter
What the video is about
Script
What happens from the beginning to the end. Dialogue, camera angles, shots needed, plot, etc.
Film style
What the film looks like. Black & white, color, fades, speed, tempo, etc.
Artistic intent
What you want your audience to feel or believe during and after watching your piece.
Bnc cable
Cable to connect camera to a switcher or monitor, send video signal.
Tilt
Moving tripod from down to up or up to down.
Splice in
In avid when you splice in everything gets pushed to the right, footage is put in.
Overwrite
New footage covers original or older footage.
Dolly
When tripod is on wheels it is pushed toward or backwards.
Truck
When the tripod is on wheels and is moved from left to right.
Treatment
The video plan of action for your video.
Focus
When your image is crystal clear in your viewfinder.
Exposure
How bright or dark your camera looks. How much light is let into the camera.
Pan
When you point and move the camera from left to right and right to left.
Zoom
On the camera you can control to get closer to the subject.
Rule of thirds
Tic tac toe board on camera and leave perfect headroom for all your shots.
Lead room
The empty space you leave for your actor or actress to walk into.
Steadicam
Camera stabilizer that absorbs all the camera operators movements.
Assumption cut
When a shot from a scene skips to another one to eliminate drag time in between the shots.
Preroll
5 seconds before the actual shot.
Post roll
5 seconds after the actual shot.
Nat sound
Natural sound happening around the filming.
