What is consent?
Consent is when a person allows you to do something.
When is consent implied?
Consent is implied when a person is unconscious and not able to consent.
What are the two numbers that we can call for help?
000 (AUD) and 112 (International).
Who is the most important person in a first aid scenario?
Yourself.
What does DRSABCD stand for?
- Danger
- Response
- Send for help
- Airway
- Breathing
- CPR
- Defibrillator.
What does COWS stand for?
- Can you hear me
- Open your eyes
- What’s your name
- Squeeze my hands.
What should you do while treating a nosebleed?
Have the patient sit down pinch the fleshy part of the nose and lean forward.
What do defibrillators do to the heart?
Stop the heart so it can reset back to a normal rhythm
How do you treat someone suffering from an asthma attack?
- Sit them down
- Administer 4 puffs of Ventolin with a spacer
- Wait 4 minutes
- Repeat if needed.
What is one possible trigger for an asthma attack?
Weather, allergies, exercise, sickness, chemicals, smoke, or anaphylaxis.
How do you treat someone who is choking?
Administer 5 back blows followed by 5 chest thrusts.
How do you treat a minor burn?
Run it under room temperature water for 10 minutes.
What depth of the chest do you push when doing CPR?
⅓ of the chest.
When might you stop CPR?
- When the paramedics take over
- When you get too tired and need to swap with someone
- When the person regains consciousness.
Where do you place the defibrillator pads on an adult?
- One right below the right collarbone
- One on the lower left chest.
Where do you place the defibrillator pads on a baby?
- One in the middle of the chest
- One in the middle of the back.
Why can you not touch the body when the defibrillator says ‘stand clear analyzing heart rhythm’?
You will get shocked too if it needs to shock the patient.
What is one thing that might cause anaphylaxis?
Nuts, bees/wasps, or fish.
What might be two things that would cause an asthma attack?
- Exercise
- Pollen
- Chemicals
- Tobacco smoke
- Dust
- Mould.
