How to behave in an emergency
- keep calm
- do not panic
- assess situation
- make safe
- give emergency aid
- get help - call emergency
Resuscitation - If person is UNCONSCIOUS
- gently shake his shoulders
- shout: wake up!
If you get no response
1.open the airway
2.check the breathing
3.check the pulse
If there is a pulse but no breathing
Start ARTIFICIAL VENTILATION
If there is no pulse and no breathing
-start CHEST COMPRESSIONS combined with VENTILATIONS
-when breathing starts, place the person in RECOVERY POSITION
Nosebleeds
- sit the person down
- bend his head forward
- pinch the soft part of his nose firmly for about 10 minutes
- apply wet pad on the back of the neck
Broken bones/ fractures
-support and steady the injured part
-use rolled up blankets, bags, sticks to support the injury
Burn and scalds
-place in cold water for at least 10 minutes
- cover the area with clean material
-seek the medical help
Fainting
-lie the person down
- lift his legs up
-get fresh air
-watch the airway, breathing, pulse and be prepared to resuscitate
Choking
-open the airway
- remove any visible obstruction
- ENCOURAGE COUGHING
-bend the person forward
- slap between the shoulder blades up to 4 times
- repeat the slaps if necessary
Insect stings
-remove the sting with tweezers
-apply cold pad
-if the person is allergic - apply antihistaminic
Heatstroke/sunstroke
-get the person out of sun
-cool him down by giving water to drink
- if UNCONSCIOUS - check breathing, pulse and place in the RECOVERY POSITION
-urgently seek medical help
