- What is the ultimate purpose of corporate worship?
Honor God in ways he wants to be honored, use the systems and patterns he has put in place to define this
Why is God’s story of salvation so important for corporate worship?
- It shows us our identity and allows us to make sure we have a liturgical pattern to follow instead of falling into trappings that make it about ourselves
- What principle of christian worship can we derive from the texts of origins?
- There are dangers to engaging in self centered worship,
- it should follow the pattern of the story of salvation,
- the style does not matter but God should be at the center
- How is the gospel principle of worship reflected in the texts of origins and patriarchal narratives?
The concept of the gospel talks about what God has done for us, it is good news. This concept flows through the narratives of the texts of origins and patriarchal stories, from god’s promise to Abraham to Jacob’s son Joseph beginning the process before the exodus
- How does worship shape our identity?
It is who we are as it is where we came from. We worship because we are inclined to and invited to by God because of what he has done for us.
spirit of obedience
- What has been the significance of the sabbath for the people of God? Why is the sabbath rest so difficult for us today?
The sabbath is meant to be the day of rest for God’s people, we find it difficult to fully rest because there is so much to get done in daily life and we feel that it is more important than taking time to accept God’s invitation to rest
- What does the Bible teach about the space of worship?
It should be a place that is treated like a home, priests in the near east early on would take off their shoes in God’s house, it should be designed to draw attention to God and not anything else, free of pagan symbolism, reflect God’s holiness
- How does the paradox of the tabernacle inform christian corporate worship? What worship lessons we learn from the tabernacle? Briefly explain each lesson
the house of God is laid out like a home, how we think about coming into someones home, should be intimate and treated with reverence, A place of gathering and god presenting himself to us, we gather because, the need to draw near to god but not too close because his holiness is too much for me to handle
He wants to bring his people back into fellowship like it was in eden,
when we walk into the house of god that is a privilege
- Describe the challenges of pastors and worship leaders regarding the sacred space
Trying to make it an interesting environment that people want to come to but not making the focus on things other than God

- Theres a pattern, it is habitual
2. Shapes to it

- Confession (confess sin), 4. Declaration of forgiveness from god,
- Word of god (through pastors word),
- Responding to god’s word (baptism, offerings and blessing each other),
- Blessing/benediction
- How would you explain worship by the book? Whys is It so important
It needs to be focused on god entirely needs to follow a liturgical style and make sure to be reainacting the the story of salvation, this is important because it keeps the focus on God
God says how he wants to be worshipped, it is important that we follow these things because if we know how to do things properly and we do not we are being self centered and not following the way god wants to be worshiped. The story of David and the ark shows how not following the way god wants to be worshiped can end badly
In the bible god reveals his preference
If you don’t worship by the book you will be tempted to worship in your way
in the book it states how god wants us to worship him.
There’s a structure to worship liturgy, seven fold worship practices
Describe the relationship between worship and holiness, and worship and mission.
when we worship god it has to be reflected in the way we carry out our missions and talking to people we want to inform of God’s presence
The character of the person god calls to worship matters, David had to learn lessons about worship the hard way but he learned and reflected
What happens in worship that influences our holiness as individuals and our mission is the main point of worship, without which worship cannot exist we need to focus on God and glorify him
If worship is honest and true it will effect your life
Worship shouldn’t change god but you
The story of salvation being the focal point of worship and applying that to the way we bring other people in.
Leave the church to actually bring what God is to others as we always should
