Fit And Healthy Flashcards
(29 cards)
How do you stay fit?
Eat a balanced diet Exercise regularly Never smoke Avoid alcohol Never do drugs
What does being fit mean?
It means you can cope with the activities you need to do.
If you stay fit and healthy…
You will be less likely to suffer from high blood pressure and other circulatory problems like heart disease where heart muscle cells start to die.
Is marijuana a stimulant or depressant?
A depressant.
The heart, arteries and veins are part of what system?
The circulatory system.
What are the reactants of aerobic respiration?
Oxygen and glucose.
Is amphetamine legal or illegal?
Illegal.
Is nicotine legal or illegal?
Legal.
What is the addictive drug in cigarettes called?
Nicotine.
Name the four fitness factors.
Speed
Suppleness
Stamina
Strength
A lack of vitamin c in your diet will lead to…
Scurvy.
A lack of iron in your diet might lead to…
Anaemia.
What happens during exercise?
Muscle cells need more energy which is obtained from a sugar called glucose.
What is the word equation for aerobic respiration?
Glucose + oxygen ➡️ carbon dioxide + water (+energy)
What is anaerobic respiration?
Anaerobic respiration does not need oxygen. It happens when there is not enough oxygen for normal aerobic respiration. This happens during exercise normally. Much less energy is released with this form of respiration.
What is the word equation for anaerobic respiration?
Glucose ➡️ lactic acid (+energy)
Which organ systems allow respiration to occur in the muscle cells?
What do they do?
Respiratory system supplies oxygen and removes carbon dioxide.
Digestive system provides glucose.
Circulatory system carries oxygen and glucose to the muscle cells and carries the carbon dioxide away to the lungs.
What happens when you exercise?
Why?
Your breathing and pulse rate increase. This is because your cells need more oxygen and glucose for respiration and the only way to take this in is by breathing more heavily.
What muscles carry out breathing?
The diaphragm and the rib muscles.
What does breathing do?
Ventilates air in and out of the lungs.
What happens during inhalation?
Diaphragm contracts and moves downwards.
Rib muscles contract and lift ribs up and outwards.
The volume of the chest decreases.
Air flows into the lungs.
What happens during exhalation?
Diaphragm relaxes and moves upwards.
Rib muscles relax and move muscles down and inwards.
The volume of the chest decreases.
Air flows out of the lungs.
What is nicotine?
An addictive drug in cigarettes.
It cigarette smoke, what does nicotine do?
Makes arteries narrower
Causes heart disease.
