Q

Components of Fixed appliances?

A
  • Bands - rings encircling teeth usually molar teeth cemented with GIC
  • Bonds - brackets are bonded onto teeth
  • Brackets and bands have horizontal slot where arch wire is placed

Q

How is the type of force applied determined using arch wire?

A
  • Amount and type of force applied can be controlled by varying the cross-sectional diameter and form of the arch wire or material
  • nickel titanium wire more flexible than stainless steel and has greater resistance to deformation - good for alignment of teeth
  • stainless steel good for levelling curve of spee
  • stainless steel rectangular wire also good for OJ reduction or correction of incisor relationship and space closure as you have 3D control with the help of springs and elastics
