Flexibility training concepts Flashcards
(12 cards)
Flexibility
The ability to move a joint throughout it’s complete range of motion
Extensibility
Capability to elongate or stretch
Dynamic range of motion
The combination of flexibility and nervous system ability to control this range of motion efficiently
Neuromuscular efficiency
The ability of the Nuro muscular system to allow other niece antagonist and stabilizers to work synergistically to produce reduce and dynamically stabilize the entire kinetic chain in all three planes of motion
Postural distortion pattern
Predictable patterns of muscle imbalance
Homeostasis
The ultimate goal of the human movement system/to achieve dynamic postural equilibrium
Relative flexibility
The bodies tendency to seek the path of least resistance during functional movement patterns
Reciprocal inhabilitation
The simultaneous construction of one muscle and the relaxation of its antagonist to allow movement to take place
Altered reciprocal inhabitation
The concept of muscle inhabitation caused by a tight agonist which inhibits it’s functional antagonist
Synergistic dominance
The neuromuscular phenomenon that occurs when inappropriate muscles take over the function of a week or inhabited prime mover
Arthrokinemaics
The motion of joints in the body
Arthrokinetic dysfunction
Altered force at the joint that results in abnormal muscular activity and impaired neuromuscular communication at the joint
