Flight Controls Flashcards
(18 cards)
How many spoilers on each wing and what do they do?
7
Provide roll control and speed brakes.
What systems do you loose in secondary mode?
Autopilot
Auto speed brakes
Envelope protection
Gust suppression
TAC
Ya damping
Tail strike prevention
What functions do you loose when in direct mode?
Autopilot
Auto speed brakes
Envelope protection
Gust suppression
Manual rudder trim cancel switch
TAC
Yaw damping
Tail strike protection
What is turn compensation?
The PFCs automatically control pitch which eliminates the need for the pilot to add additional back pressure in turns up to 30 degrees aob.
How is the horizontal stabilizer controlled in the ground?
With the trim switches
What do the alternate pitch trim levers do?
Move a set of cables that control the stabiliser directly in all modes.
What does placing both stabilizer switches in the cut out position do?
Removes all hydraulic power to the stabilizer. (Pitch trim is still available, then the PFCs reposition the elevators to trim the plane)
How many power control units control the rudder? And how are they powered?
3
And each pic is pcu is powered by one of the hydraulic systems.
When is TAC available?
Armed when above 70kts
Operational in both manyal and autoflight
Not available during reverse
Activates when a thrust difference of 10% is sensed
What is wheel to rudder crosstie and when is it operational?
It controls the initial effects of a flameout with the control and can deflect the rudder up to 8 degrees.
Available in normal mode and when below 210kts.
How many hydraulic systems is each aileron and flapper on controlled by?
2
What spoilers are also controlled by a mechanical cable from the control wheel?
4 and 11
What spoilers are locked out during the cruise?
5 and 10. They are available as ground speed brakes only
When do the speed brakes automatically extend?
When armed and the landing gear is fully on the ground and the thrust levers are at idle.
When not armed on the ground when either reverse thrust lever is moved to the reverse idle detent.
When is flap and slat extension inhibited?
When speed is more than 275kts or altitude is above approx 20000’
What are the 3 modes of flap and slat operation?
Primary. Powered by centre hydraulics.
Secondary and alternate. Powered by left and right main AC busses.
When is autoslat system armed and why?
Augments stall protection.
Slats extend from midrange to full extended when approaching the stall in flaps 1,5,15,20 and is only available in primary mode.
