Flight Controls Flashcards
Does the failure of a single hydraulic system affect primary flight controls?
No, except, ailerons feel heavier.
With autopilot engaged, how are flight controls operated?
hydraulically operated by signals from the AFCS.
Secondary controls by FAS
If a total hydraulic failure occurs, what flight controls will still operate?
They will all operate mechanically by cables and pully systems.
Flaps and stabiliser electric
When will aileron servo tabs unlock and what is their function?
it is locked during normal operations. I one hyd system failure occurs one will unlock to assist in manual operation of the affected aileron. If both fail, both unlock.
Does aileron trim require hydraulic pressure?
No
What is the normal source of pressure for the rudder? what if it fails?
Hyd system 2. If fails, Hyd system 1.
What happens to the rudder when you pass 200kts?
The rudder limiter reduced hyd pressure to 1100psi.
What can you do when a rudder limiter failure occurs?
Manually control it via the augmentation panel on overhead.
What is the normal source of hydraulic pressure to the elevators?
dual actuators (sys 1 and 2)
What would be an obvious difference if elevator hydraulics totally fail?
will feel 5 times as heavy
How is stab trim normally controlled?
Via FAS with controls on control column
How is the stab trim wheel used for trimming?
if Primary means fails, wheel can be used. it is hydraulically powered.
When can you use electric trim?
when hydraulic system failure occurs revert to electric trim.
What does the flight controls lock affect?
locks ailerons and elevator
What flap positions may be selected?
8 25 going down, 15 going up.
If hydraulic pressure to the flaps fails, how can the flaps be operated?
via electric control. switch is located next to flap lever.
normal ops cannot be reconnected after this switch has been pulled.
What happens when flap asymmetry occurs? can it be reset?
hydraulic operation deactivates and laps remain at current position. cannot rest/resume normal ops.
What is flap disagreement? what can be done about it?
Disagreement between position of flap lever and actual position. Recycle then use alt procedure.
Will a flap disagreement alert be presented in whilst in alternate operation?
No
Is there any speed restriction on the use of the speed brake? how does airspeed affect speed brake deployment?
No speed limit, but less then 190 allows full 60 degrees.
When does automatic speed brake retraction occur?
When:
- the TOGA triggers are activated
- a thrust lever is advanced beyond MIN TO with landing gear up.
- maximum forward thrust position is selected (wind shear escape)
- the landing gear is selected up with both thrust levers set above MIN TO (manual go around)
What indication is there of speed brake operation?
2x blue lights on main instrument panel.
When do you arm the lift dumpers? what is the armed indication?
on ground before take off and before landing (after gear selected down).
When will lift dumpers automatically extend? is there backup for this?
will deploy with RTO when thrust levers retarded and speed is above 50kts
upon landing when wheels spin up to 50kts on touchdown and thrust levers are in idle.
backup is when reverse thrust levers are raised.
