Flir Infrared Training Center Flashcards
(81 cards)
What is the definition of certification?
Written testimony of qualification
What does it mean to be certified by the Infrared Training Center?
you showed up did the work and passed the test
Do modern infrared cameras require additional sources of visible light to operate?
No they use radiation to work
Is night vision technology the same as infrared?
no night vision needs small bits of light to work and thermal needs heat energy
Outside, what is the coldest thing at which you could point your infrared camera?
The sky
What three critical camera parameters cannot be changed after an image has been saved?
Focus
Range
Distance
How would you describe a camera’s resolution?
Resolution is the amount of pixles a camera can record Camera lens can increase resolution
What is a camera’s field of view?
What the entire scene on the screen
What is the simplest way to ensure that you are covering enough pixels to fulfill measurement?
You want to make sure the radical area is completely filled in
What could be done to improve the measurement spot size?
Lens change or get closer
What is meant by spot size ratio?
The relationship from the distance of the camera to the spot being measured DS Ratio
Distance from the target divided by the size of the target
Does electronic or digital zooming improve or change the resolution?
No it just inlarges the pixels
What is the purpose of a non-uniformity correction (NUC)?
Reset the pixles to become uniform
Reduses electronic noise
What is the definition of energy?
The ability to do work (The application of force through a distance)
What are some common energy units?
Joule, BTU, Calorie (Thermal) Calorie (Food) Kilowatt-Hour
What does the conservation of energy principle state?
The total number of energy in a closed system remains constant
What is the definition of heat?
A form of energy that is transferred by a diffrence in temperature
What is the definition of temperature?
The measurement of the average kinetic energy of the molecules in an object or system
What is the definition of absolute zero?
The theoretical point where molecular motions are at minimum
How would you convert temperature difference measurements between Celsius and Fahrenheit?
(C*1.8)
What is heat transfer?
The flow of heat energy from a body of higher temperature to one of the lower temperature
In which direction does heat spontaneously flow?
From hotter to colder
What is thermal equilibrium?
Condition that exists beween two objects when they have reached the same temperature and heat energy no longer flows between them
Heat will not flow
What is the difference between a steady-state and transient condition?
Steady state exists when temperature differences do not vary over time
The heat energy flowing through a material or between materials is constant and not changing
Temps remain constant. Transient state is when temperate changes over time
