What do Magnesium and Calcium act like?

SEDATIVES.

Give a Magnesium fact.

Magnesium is excreted by the KIDNEYS, but it can be lost in other ways (GI tract).

What are the normal lab values for Magnesium and Calcium?

NORMAL LAB VALUES

Mg: 1.3 - 2.1 mEq/L (0.65 - 1.05 mmol/L)

Calcium: 9.0 - 10.5 mg/dl (2.25-2.62 mmol/L)

Give causes for Hypermagnesemia.

1. Renal Failure (kidneys not working, so it builds up in your blood

2. Antacids

Give signs and symptoms for Hypermagnesemia.

1. Flushing

2. Warmth

3. Mg makes you VASODILATE.
