Fluids Flashcards
(26 cards)
What are 4 fluids need to know
NaCl 0.9%
Potassium chloride 0.3%
Potassium chloride 0.15%
Glucose 5%
Water requirements in 24 hours
25-30ml/kg/24hr
Sodium and potassium requirements in 24 hours
1mmol/kg/24hr
Glucose requirements in 24 hours
50-100g/24hr
What is minimum time 1L KCl 0.3% can be given over
4 hours as 40mml in bag
Fluids given for emergency hypoglycaemia with IV access
Glucose 20% 100ml over 15 mins
Fluids given for hypokalaemia
Give 1000ml NaCl 0.9%/potassium chloride 0.3% over 4 hours
Emergency hypercalcaemia fluids given
0.9% NaCl 1000ml over 4 hours
Maintenance fluids
Give 1000 ml over 8-12hrs
Maintenance fluids if D&V or low K+ or Na+
Give 1000ml over 4-6 hours
Bolus for paediatric resus fluids fluids
10ml/kg
Maintenance fluids for children
First 10kg =100ml/kg/24 hours
Next 10kg= 50ml/kg/24 hours
Anything over that 20ml/kg/24 hours
If patient has had stroke, what is important consideration when it comes to first bag give
Do not want to make hyperglycaemic as increases severity of stroke therefore avoid glucose bags
What are 3 types of medicine prescribing question
Once only medicine- acute setting 1 dose
Regular medicine- VTE etc, continuous
General practise
Salbutamol dose given in adults in exacerbation
5mg
Ipatropium bromide dose given in acute exacerbation
500mcg
Hydrocortisone IV dose given in asthma exacerbation
100mg
Mag sulph dose given in acute asthma
1.2-2mg
Asthma exacerbation prednisolone dose
40mg
COPD exacerbation prednisolone dose
30mg
How many mmol of sodium in 1L of NaCl
154
How many mmol of chloride in 1L of NaCl
154
In a litre bag of 5% glucose how much glucose is there
50
How many mmol of K+ in 1L of 0.3% KCl and 0.15% KCl
0.3%= 40 mmol
0.15%= 20 mmol
