Fluids Flashcards
What is a fluid?
A fluid is any substance that flows, this includes liquid and gasses. Fluids don’t have a fixed shape, instead it’ll take the shape of its container. Ex: Water in a cup
Are fluids essential for life
Yes, we can use fluids to do work and they ARE essential for life
Fluids can do FIVE major things, what are those things
They can carry items, hold other materials, become solid, act as lubricants, used to support
A slurry is a mixture of WHAT?
Water and solids
A slurry is a example of a fluid doing what of five major things
Its a example of carrying iteams, a slurry is made from water and solid, the solids are transported with the water.
Whats a example of a slurry IRL
Hydroseeding, the water holds seeds, fertilizer and its sprayed into dirt to grow plants
Whats the purpose of a water cytoplasm in a cell
it holds the organelles and provides a medium where they can float, grow function and move
A watery cytoplasm is a example of what 5 major things
Hold other materials
an irl example of a thing that holds materials is a —-
TOOTHPASTE! It holds materials that cleans, polishes and protects you teeth
How can fluids become solids?
A fluid takes shape of its container, like concrete, it can be molded before it hardens
Whats a example of a lubricant and what does it do?
Oil, oil is used to reduce friction, noise and heat. Paint, it provides a barrier and protects the wood yk?
Whats a example of a fluid used to support?
Air, air in tire! the air supports the tires
Whats fluid mechanics
The study of fluids and how they behave
Whats fluid dynamics
The study of fluid behavior when in motion
Whats the diffrence between fluid mechanics and dynamics
They are BOTH the study of fluids, but mechanics is how it behaves, dynamics is how its in motion
What are the 2 areas fluid dynamics can be devided in, and whats is it
- Hydrodynamics-study of liquid motion Aerodynamics-study of gaseous motion
What are the 5 particle theory of matter
- All matter is made of tiny particles
- Particals have empty spaces between them
- particals are moving randomly at ALL time
- Particals move faster and spread out further when they are heated
- particals are attracted to each other
Whats it called when liquid goes to gas
vaporization
Gas-liquid
Condensation
Liquid-solid
freezing
solid-liquid
melting
gas-solid
deposition
solid-gas
sublimation
Carbon dioxide is a fluid, so is water vapor and lava
ok
