Q

What are the ratios of:
Low expansion foam
Medium expansion foam
High expansion foam

A

Low expansion foam- between 5:1 and 15:1
Medium expansion foam- between 20:1 and 200:1
High expansion foam- between 200:1 and 2000:1, usually not more than 1200:1

Q

What are the three variables when producing foam

A

1-the volume of air mixed with the volume of solution
2- the quantity of foam concentrate added

Q

What 7 health and safety considerations are to be made when using foam

A

1- Never apply water to burning liquids
2- The branch must be aimed away from the fire until there is a constant supply of foam
3- Apply foam to the furthest point of burning liquid
4-Ensure there is enough foam to complete a sealing blanket
5- surrounding risks must be cooled with covering jets
6- Don’t apply water on top of a foam blanket
7- Dont walk om, or drag equipment through a blanket

Q

What are the 7 hazards when working with high expamsion foam?

A

1- claustrophobic
2- disorientation
3- severeley affected light penetration
4- Limited audibility (danger, acme, instructions)
5- mini backdrafts from pockets of oxygen
6- reduced transmission of heat making fire more difficult to find
7- difficult to spot surrounding damege and signs of building collapse
