What are the role of Enzymes?
Enzymes break down large insoluble molecules into small soluble molecules so they can be absorbed into our bloodstream.
Carbohydrase
Converts starch to glucose. Found in the mouth and the small intestine.
Protease
Protein to amino acids. Found in small intestine.
Lipase
Lipids(fats) to fatty acids and glycerol.
Test for Glucose
You test for glucose by heating Benedict’s solution in a beaker at 65 degrees. If glucose is present the colour should turn from blue to orange.
Amylase
Breaks down starch into glucose. Produced in the salivary glands and the pancreas.
Test for Starch
You test for starch with iodine solution. It turns a black/blue colour if starch is present.
Test for Protein
You test for protein with Buiret solution. If it turns from blue to purple then Protein is present.
Thermal Decomposition
When a substance is broken down into simpler substances.
