How does availability effect a person’s shopping choices?
People will buy food that is readily available.
People who live in villages may not have easy access to a big supermarket with a vast variety of food options.
Different views of foods for Christianity?
No strict rules about food
During Lent (40 days before Easter), Christians will choose to give up a certain type of food (i.e. Meat, fish, alcohol)
During easter, hot cross buns are eaten to represent to crucifixion of Jesus.
Pancake Day to start Lent period.
Different views of food for Islam?
Do not eat pork, drink alcohol, do not eat gelatine products.
Muslims can eat meat (chicken, beef), Halal - is blessed before being slaughtered
During Ramadan (1 month) where Muslims fast between sunset and sunrise
Eid is the celebration for muslims
Different views of food for Hinduism?
Typically, Hindus are vegetarian but will avoid vegetables believed to be harmful such as: onions, garlic and mushrooms.
Jhatka method is used to slaughter meat. This is believed to be a quick and painless method.
Different views of food for Judaism?
Are not allowed to eat pig, rabbit, hare, camels (hooved animals)
Kosher (fit for consumption) - Animals are slaughtered quick and painlessly, and blood is drained from the animal afterwards.
Blood is considered non-Kosher
Different views of food for Sikhism?
Sikhs do not eat ritually slaughtered meat (Halal, Kosher, Jhatka methods are not permitted to eat this)
Many Sikhs are vegetarian
Sikhism teaches Sikhs to only eat what they need to eat, and should avoid overindulging

Buddhists believe that all living things are sacred, so majority of Buddhists are vegan or vegetarian.
Avoid alcohol as they believe it alters the world around you
Some buddhists will fast from noon till sunrise the next day.
