Lifecycle
The stages of life you go through. The life cycle starts in the fetus then the infancy stage then childhood, adolescence and old age.
Anaemia
A condition in which there is a deficiency of red blood cells in the blood stream.
Lactation
The secretion of milk by the mammary gland.
Antibody
A blood protein
Antibodies combine with substances such as bacteria, viruses and foreign substances in the blood.
Balanced Diet
A diet that contains the proper amounts of carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, minerals and water to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Malnutrition
Lacking of proper nutrients
Caused by not eating enough of the right foods
Food Allergy
After eating a specific food the immune system reacts and can trigger signs and symptoms like hives and swollen airways.
Food Intolerance
Foods that your body can not tolerate
Symptoms include diarrhea and vomiting.
Glucose
A simple sugar which is an important energy source.
Insulin
A hormone produced in the pancreas. It regulates how much glucose is in the blood stream. Lack of insulin can cause a form of diabetes.
Anorexia Nervosa
Lack or loss of appetite for food.
Diabetes
A disorder of the metabolism causing excessive thirst and the large production of large amounts of urine.
Bulimia
An emotional disorder cause by a distorted body image and an obsessive desire to lose followed by fasting or self-induced vomiting or purging.
Vegetarian
A person who doesn’t eat meat or fish mainly because of religious or health reasons.
Perishable
(mainly food) likely to decay or go badly quickly.
Diverticulitis
inflammation of a diverticulum, especially in the colon, causing pain and disturbance of bowel function.
Osteomalacia
Softening of the bones, typically through a deficiency of vitamin D or calcium.
