Q

“Yet methinks if that death were near / He would not banquet and carouse and swill”

A

Parody of Christ’s Last Supper to highlight Faustus almost comedic foolishness.

Unlike Christ’s Last Supper whereby he dines before he sacrifices himself for mankind’s sins and absolution.

Faustus instead feasts on his own gluttony, punished for his gorging of the superficial.

Irony almost emphatic of a punishment deserved.
