What is an Input?
An input is a thing that goes into the farm. It can be physical or human
What is a process?
A process is the things which take place in the farm to turn an input into an output
What is an output?
An output is the product made from the farm
What type of industry is farming?

When the size of the farm is too big compared to the amount of labour, capital and input
Food shortages: Famine
Famine is when the demand for food exceeds the supply of food. This can lead to food shortages and damage people’s health to starvation.
Influence of natural and human inputs on agricultural land use
Labour Climate Market Relief Soils Finance Tradition Politics
How can farmers increase their outputs?
Smart water management systems
Use nitrogen
Varieties selection
Use fertilisers
Causes of food shortages: Droughts
Droughts mean that plants are dry. This means that no crops can be harvested which leads to food shortages
Causes of food shortages: Floods
Floods mean that the crops can be taken away by the water. If too much water gets into the plant, the crops won’t grow meaning it will lead to food shortages
Causes of food shortages: Pests
Pests mean that some animals can eat the crops. This means that farmers can’t sell their product, which then leads to famine, and eventually food shortages
Why are there food shortages in some places?
Deserts
No economic status for mechanisation
No transport, food gets rotten
Lot of people to feed
Effects of food shortages
Violence Famine Migration Rising prices Starvation
Solutions to food shortages
Farmers can boost their outputs
Fair trade
Reduce food waste
Promote diversification
