Benedict’s solution
Blue -> Brick red
What is the test for starch and what is the colour change?
Iodine
Orange/Brown -> Blue/Black
What is the test for lipids and what is the colour change?
Ethanol + Water
Colourless -> Cloudy
What is the test for proteins and what is the colour change?
Biuret
Blue -> Lilac
What is the method for the Benedict’s test?
1) Add food sample to test tube with a few drops of Benedict’s solution
2) Place test tube in water bath at 80*C for 5 minutes
What is the method for an iodine test?
1) Add food sample to a test tube
2) Add a few drops of iodine
What is the method for the emulsion test?
1) Add food sample to test tube
2) Add a few drops of water
3) Add a few drops of ethanol
4) Gently shake solution
What is the method for the biuret test?
1) Add food sample to test tube
2) Add a few drops of biuret
3) Shake solution gently
