16
Q

Static friction definition.

A

When there is enough friction to keep an object from moving.

17
Q

Sliding friction definition.

A

Friction between solid objects that rub against each other when they move.

18
Q

Rolling friction definition.

A

Friction when one object rolls or turns over another surface.

19
Q

Fluid friction definition.

A

Friction that occurs when an object is moving through a liquid or gas that slows it down.

20
Q

Motion is…

A

Motion is a change in position over time when compared to a reference point.

21
Q

What would a distance vs time graph look like for an object moving
at a constant speed?

A

straight, diagonal line

22
Q

What would a distance vs time graph look like for an object moving at an increasing speed?

A

curved line that is steeper at the end than at the beginning

23
Q

What would a distance vs time graph look like for an object moving at a decreasing speed?

A

curved line that is steeper at the beginning than at the end

24
Q

Contact force definition.

A

With a contact force substances MUST be touching for there to be a force.

25
Non contact force definition.
non-contact forces substances do not need to be touched for there to be a force.
26
What is net force?
Net force is the combination of all of the forces acting on an object.
27
What is a magnet?
A magnet is a material that certain other metals are attracted to because of the orientation of its molecules.
28
Opposite poles... and like poles...
Opposite poles attract, like poles repel.
29
What is a magnetic field?
Magnetic field is the area between and around magnets where there is a force.
30
4 ways to decrease friction:
- Making a surface smoother - Use a lubricant - Reducing the force pushing down on the surface (the weight of the object) - instead of sliding an object, put it on wheels since rolling friction is usually less than sliding friction
31
2 ways to increase friction?
Make the surface rougher Adding weight to an object creates more force between surfaces
32
What is an electric force caused by?
The charge is caused by an object gaining or transferring electrons.
33
What is static electricity?
Static electricity is the build up of charge (electrons) on an object.
34
What is an electric discharge?
Electric discharge is when the build-up of charge (electrons) is transferred to another object.
35
What are the three ways electric charge can be transferred and what do they mean?
-friction: rubbing -conduction: direct contact -induction: charged objects coming close to each other but not touching.
36
Your doing awsome!!!
Keep at it!
