Force 🤔 Flashcards
(24 cards)
What is the unit of force
Newton and the symbol is N.
What is the force of gravity
It’s a pen because of the edge of the table, it Falls to the ground. This is because the earth pulls objects towards it.The pull of the earth is due to the force of gravity.
What is the magnetic force
When a magnet is brought near metal paperclip, you would notice that the magnet will attract the paper clip. The force that moved that paper clip is the magnetic force of the magnet. If you bring two magnets close to each other, the magnets may push away from each other,or the magnets might attract each other. The force of gravity always attracts objects towards the Earth, while the magnetic force may attract and repel.
What is the electric force
When you rub a plastic pen against the sleeve of your jumper, you can lift small pieces of paper with that pen.The pen has become electrically charged and the electric force can attract small pieces of paper.
What is the force of friction?
How are brakes able to slow down a bicycle? When you pull the brake handle the brake pushes against the wheel of the bicycle. This FRICTION between the wheel and the brake pad causes the bicycle to move more slowly. Therefore if friction can slow down a bicycle it is a force.
What are the advantages of friction.
Friction has many advantages and is very useful in everyday life
🔵When driving a car around a corner friction is needed. If the tyres on the car are very worn there is a risk that a lack of friction could cause the car to skid.An accident while turning a car is more likely on a wet day because there is less friction on a wet day between the tyres and the road.
🔵Friction is needed to stop a bicycle.Friction between the break pad and the wheel is what stops the bicycle.
🔵When carpenter join piece of wood together with nails he is using the force of friction. If There was no friction between the wood and the nails, then is it simply slipped out of the wood.
🔵 when you walk you tend to forget the friction between you shoes and the ground is needed. If you step onto an oil patch on the ground, you will most likely slip. Here the oil patch reduced the friction between your shoes and the ground. If there is no fiction, you will not be able to walk.
What is a force
Causes a stationary object to move.
What are the disadvantages of friction
Friction can be a nuisance.
💩When you go for a long walk when you were new shoes there is a chance of getting a blister on your ankle. The blisters caused by the skin your ancle rubbing against the shoe, A clear example i of fiction as a nuisance.
💩 when a car is moving there is friction between the air and the surface of the car. This friction is overcome by the force of the engine. However, this means that some of your fuel needed to overcome friction. Therefore friction waste fuel.
💩when the space shuttle returns are there is a lot of friction between the surface of the shuttle and the gas in the atmosphere. This could cause the shuttle to overheat, with disastrous consequences.this problem was solved by using special tiles on the surface of the shuttle.
How do you reduce the force of friction
To reduce the friction between two surfaces you could try to make the surfaces smother.however, as there is no perfectly smooth surface we often you special materials to reduce friction. These materials are called lubricants.call me samples you will be familiar with Oil , liquid polish and soap.
Example of lubrication to reduce friction is
💩there are many moving parts in a car engine. Facial would lead to wearing. Fiction would also generate heat which would damage the engine. Oil and grease are use as lubricants in car engine.
💩 The bones at the joints in the human body are surrounded by fluid that acts as a lubricant. This greatly reduces friction.
💩 Do you some of your doors at home squeak when opened a close? If so, the noise is called by friction in the hinge. Spray a bit of liquid polish on the hinge. The friction is reduced and the noise is gone. Your parents very impressed with you!
What is lubrication?
You reduce use the friction between two services in contact.
What is a simple formula to convert mass to weight?
Weight(in newtons)=mass(in kilograms ✖️10
How can the value of weight can change?
💩as all this was above ground level the pulling force of the earth because it is. The weight of the object increases. The weight of an object on the top of Mount Everest is more than the weight of of it at the level sea.
💩The international space station is 400 kilometres above the surface of the earth. Objects have a small weight of this height.
💩since the moon is not on the earth to gravity force more on the moon. And I’ll be have a weight of six times smaller on the moon compared to the earth.
What is the effect of force having a spring
The site is Robert Hooke discover the relationship between the force applied to it and elastic body and excision of the elastic body called by the force. Discovery is known as hooks law. When is spring is being sent as an in the hooks law experiment, a problems may rise. This problem happens if the force used extend the spring is too large.if the forces to pay, the spring will be overstretched and loses elastically. Oaks slot will no longer be valid. We say that spring has exceeded elastic limit.
what is hooks law
The extension of elastic body as spring is directly portions of the force causing the extension.
moment of force
force x perpendicular distance from the fulcrum
what is a lever
a lever is a rigid body that can turn about a fixed point called a fulcrum
What are some everyday applications of levers
scissors,wheelbarrow and door
What does the law of the lever state
When a lever is balanced the sum of the clockwise moments equal the sum of the anti clockwise movements
what is the centre of gravity of an object
A point were all the weight of the object appears to act
when dod we say that an object is in equalibrim
When the object is not moving and is balanced
What are the three states of equilibrim
stable equalibrim, unstable equalibrim and neutral equalibrim
When will an object topple over
An object will topple over when the object acting through the centre of gravity passes outside the base of the object
How can you improve the stability of an object
use a wider base and alower the centre lf gravity
