The distance you travel during your reaction time

The distance you travel after pressing the break.

Stopping distance
The stopping distance depends on two factors: Thinking distance - It takes time for a driver to react to a situation. During this reaction time the car carries on moving. The thinking distance is the distance travelled in between the driver realising he needs to brake and actually braking.
What will affect your thinking distance
Phone, people talking, pain, being in a rush, eating, age, intentions, alcohol and drugs, music and visibility
What will affect your breaking distance
Mass of car, tyre conditions, weather, road conditions, brake condition, wet and ice, speed
