Force and Motion Flashcards
1
Q
Speed
A
-How long it takes to go a distance
-Time + Distance
- Formula: d/t
2
Q
Velocity
A
- Speed + direction; vector
Vector: arrow shows directions + magnitude (amount + speed)
3
Q
Acceleration
A
- Change in speed + direction
4
Q
Force
A
- Push or pull
Result: motion
5
Q
Contact Force
A
- Force due to contact
1. Kicking
2. Lifting
3. Pulling
4. Friction
6
Q
Friction
A
- Two objects move againt each other
7
Q
Noncontact Force
A
- Force that one onject can apply to another without touching it
- Gravity is attractive force between objects
- Factors: distance + mass
8
Q
Net Force
A
- Sum of all forces acting on object
1. Balance Force - net force zero, object doesn’t move
2. Unbalanced Force - uneven forces, object will move
9
Q
Newton’s Laws of Motion
1st Law
A
Object will not change its motion unless an unbalanced force acts on it
10
Q
Newton’s Laws of Motion
2nd Law
A
Force = mass x acceleration of an object
- Greater mass, little change in motion
- More velocity, greater change in motion
F = ma
11
Q
Newton’s Laws of Motion
3rd Law
A
For every action, there is an equal yet opposite reaction
12
Q
Inertia
A
The tendency of an object to resist a change in motion
13
