Forces Flashcards
(9 cards)
What do forces produce changes in
- size
- shape
- motion
Of an object
Friction
Force between two surfaces that may impede relative motion and produce heating
Does friction act on objects in gas and liquid
Yes
E.g air resistance
What happens to an object when there is no resultant force acting on it
Either remains at rest or continues in a straight line at a constant speed
Force equation
F=m*a
F is force (newtons - N)
M= mass kg
A = acceleration m/s^2
How are resultant force and acceleration related
They are in the same direction
Spring constant
Force per unit extension
Hooke’s law/ spring extension equation
k = F/x
F = Force applied (in Newtons, N)
x = Extension or compression of the spring (in meters, m)
k = Spring constant (in Newtons per meter, N/m)
Limit of proportionality definition
the maximum point up to which a material obeys Hooke’s Law — where the force and extension are directly proportional.
