Forces Flashcards
(16 cards)
Name the scientist asscosiated with force.
Isaac Newton.
What is the unit of messurment for force/weight?
Newtons
What is Newton’s first law?
Unless acted on by a force, an object at rest will stay at rest and an object in motion will stay in motion.
What is Newton’s second law?
When a force acts on a mass it accelerates. The greater the force the greater the acceleration.
What is Newton’s 3rd law?
For every action there is an equal but opposite reaction.
Desrcribe what force is.
Force (N) is anything capable of causing movement in a mass.
Give examples of a force.
Gravity
Friction
Describe weight.
Weight is the mass of an object multiplied by the acceleration due to gravity.
Weight=Mass×Gravity
What is the unit of messurment for mass?
Kg
On Earth, what is the acceleration due to gravity?
10m/s
Thrust
Acceleration forward
Drag
Deceleration due to friction with the air/ground.
How to show an object at rest in a diagram?
Both arrows are equal and small.
How to show an object accelerating in a diagram?
Thrust arrow is larger than drag arrow.
How to show an object staying at a constant speed in a diagram?
Both arrows are equal and large.
How to show an object decelerating in a diagram?
Drag arrow is larger than thrust arrow.
