Forces Flashcards
(30 cards)
What is a force?
A push, pull or twist. When applied to an object it’s caused to change speed, move, change direction or stop.
What does deform mean?
To change shape.
What is drag force?
The force acting on an object moving through air or water causing it to slow down.
What does field mean?
A region where something feels a force.
What is a kilogram?
A unit of mass, symbol kg.
What is mass?
The amount of matter (stuff) a thing is made up of.
What is friction?
The force between two surfaces sliding over one another, that causes them to heat up and wear.
What is weight?
The force that pulls objects towards the centre of the earth.
What is a Newton?
A unit of force, symbol N.
What is tension?
A stretching force.
What does streamlined mean?
Shaped to reduce resistance to motion from air or water.
The thicker the liquid the greater the upthrust? True or false?
True!
Objects are lighter in water? True or false?
True!
What is density?
Volume
What is air resistance?
Going against air.
1 kg mass is pulled down by a force of 10N. True or false?
True!
What are the main characteristics of a streamlined shape?
Rounded front, slowly tapering tale and smooth shape with no projections.
What is a line of best fit?
A line that goes close to or through points in a graph, missing out anomalies.
What is an anomaly?
An anomaly in a result that doesn’t fit the pattern or the trend of the other results.
How do you calculate speed?
Divide distance by time.
How do you calculate distance?
Times speed by time.
