Forces And Motion Flashcards
(19 cards)
What is a resultant force
A resultant force is the overall force that acts on the object
acceleration
How quickly the velocity is changing
What is a balanced force
When the forces in different directions are equal
Equilibrium meaning
When the forces are the same
What is Newton’s first law
If the forces of an object are balanced the object will either stay still or with continue travelling at a constant velocity
How do u calculate mass
Mass= force/ acceleration
Gravitational field strength
The measurement of how strong the force of gravity is somewhere
What was Newton’s second law
If the forces on an object are unbalanced the only things that change are the speed of the object and the direction on the object
What is the difference between mass and weight
Your mass is the same no matter where you go in the universe; your weight, on the other hand, changes from place to place.
What is Newton’s third law
every action has an equal and opposite reaction
What are action reaction forces
They are always the same size, in opposite directions and always act on different objects
What is a thinking distance
The distance travelled by the vehicle while the driver reacts
What is the braking distance
The distance traveled by the vehicle why the brakes are working to make the vehicle stop
What is the stopping distance
The distance the car stops at
How do you calculate the stopping distance
Thinking + braking distance
What is a crumples zone
A safety device designed to crumple in a crash
How does a crumple zone affect a car in a crash
It takes the car longer to stop
And decreases force on passengers
How do air bags affect a car in a crash
They make it take longer for the passengers head to stop
How does a seatbelt affect a passenger in a car crash
Holds you to the car so the crumple zone can reduce force on you
